 Self-responsiblity for your life

A few days ago, a free journalist was released after kidnapped in late March.

Kosuke Tsuneoka, 41, said on his Twitter account his abductors were not Taliban after his release. Taliban was thought that they conducted this issue but it was denied by Tsuneoka's comment on Twitter. The comment was immediately spread among twitter users and everybody feel relieved by his release.

Similar thing occurred several years ago. After the Self Defense Forces went to Iraq to help USA military, three Japanese people entered Iraq and kidnapped. Fortunately, they were released in a few weeks but they were severely criticized by media because they ignored the caution of Japanese governments.

At the time, Japanese administration declared that the administration informed that Japanese should avoid going to Iraq hence they should go to Iraq by self-responsibility. Of course, Mr. Tsuneoka is a free journalist but he mainly write articles about conflicts. Therefore, I think his issue should be clearly distinguished from other cases. Japan guarantee freedom of people, wills of people who want to report the reality in such area where general citizen cannot go. As long as I know so far, he seems to understand risks of his jobs fully. If he take risks with his understanding, that should be respected.

I am not free from this kind of topics. As my job is done in volcanoes, sometimes we face accidents by eruptions or volcanic gas. Even famous volcanologists were sometimes killed by accidents.

I do not want to blame anyone if I face fatal accidents. Unfortunately, nature have a lot of aspect which human beings cannot prospect completely. I need to do my job with understanding of the risks.
