I am (heavy) twitter user. Twitter help me to collect information though most of sources come from Japanese.
Twitter is useful tool for simple discussion in Japanese. Japanese can contain more information within the limit of twitter than English.
I notice that nuclear energy are often discussed on twitter. Unfortunately, almost nobody are discussing geothermal energy because it is minor topic in Japan.
Currently, Japanese government regard nuclear energy as a key technology to reduce carbon dioxide. They declare to reduce CO2 at 25%. Therefore, increase of nuclear power plant is necessary in Japan.
Unfortunately, Japanese citizens do not welcome nuclear power plants. Its risk at fatal case is much more than other power plants. In addition, Japanese nuclear industry once caused fatal accidents for a few times.
Nuclear power plants are, however, important business for heavy industries. A nuclear power plants costs a few thousand dollars. Some company depend on their profits from developments of nuclear power plants.
Nuclear power plants have been criticized by a lot of people. If you see twitter, you often find accounts which always blame nuclear energy. It is often discussed by people who are interested in science and technology.
Why people love to criticize nuclear power plant or pseudo science? This is because the problems of them are easily simplified. Moreover, people can enjoy their own justice by criticizing such negative aspect of society.
Since I started to learn mining, I cannot able to blame them any more because society inevitably damage environment. As for nuclear energy, it is just easy to notice the point.
Of course, we should understand that nuclear power plant require significant mental burden for people around the power plant. The extent is much more than other resources. On the other hand, we should not forget the fact of environmental damage inevitably caused by society.
