These days, my advisers and I am reading a paper about my research. I explain the contents about the paper and they add some necessary information.
I have no experience to read papers with my advisers, but we can do it now because they do not accept so much students.
The reason I asked their supervision was "the number of cited in ISI". Of course, you cannot know everything just from the times cited. However, the number seems to proportion to the ability of researcher's ability. Currently, I feel that my decision was right.
In my opinion, the excellence of researcher's ability should be based on the number of papers. One of my adviser is an associate editor of top journal. Actually, he know very well about current situation of papers and past reputation of researchers.
I feel his deep understanding of knowledge of papers when read papers. I am learning a lot from his excellent comments.
The more paper I read, the more I feel that I need to read a lot. In order to be a good researcher, you need you know everything about past research which is relate to your research interest.
